Card payment authentication
Understand the different methods for authenticating online card payments. This guide introduces the core concepts behind our 3D Secure (3DS) authentication solutions.
Card Transactions with 3D Secure (3DS)
What is 3DS authentication?
3D Secure (3DS) is a security protocol designed to add a layer of security before authorization, helping to authenticate online transactions by requiring cardholders to complete an additional verification with their card Issuer. When a merchant initiates 3DS, the cardholder is prompted to enter a one-time passcode, typically sent via email or SMS, to complete the purchase. This process usually redirects the user to the card verification page (3DS page) to complete the authentication.
For all partner programs, the 3DS authentication page will be managed and serviced by MatchMove.
MatchMove 3D-Secure (3DS) Solutions
MatchMove, as a platform, provides you the flexibility on how you would like to deploy the 3DS experience to your end-users.
We support two options on how you can deliver the 3DS one-time PIN (OTP) to your end-users:
Platform-managed 3DS Authentication
In platform-managed 3DS, the end-to-end 3DS experience will be managed by MatchMove. In addition to serving up the 3DS authentication page to your users, we will also deliver the OTP to your end user via email / SMS.
Assisted 3DS Authentication
In this model, the 3DS authentication page will still be displayed and managed by MatchMove. But the responsibility of OTP delivery can be assumed by the program owner. The partner will be able to receive the OTP in a webhook. Then manage the delivery and experience of passing the OTP to their end-users, on any of the allowed delivery channels.
