Card spending controls
Understand how to configure and manage spending controls for a user's card. This guide covers setting various limits and restrictions to help users manage their spending and enhance security.
Control where and how the card is used by your users
Every program has a global wallet limit set up during the initial configuration. These program limits are spend limits approved and signed during the commercial agreements between the partner and MatchMove. These limits govern the transactional activity of every user on the platform.
However, there will be use cases where the program limits may be too high or not restrictive enough for certain scenarios. Also, there will be cases where certain restrictions will not apply globally but only to certain users. Therefore, there is a need to allow further restrictions on card transactions that are configurable per user.
Transaction category
Transaction categories are grouping definitions for transactions that carry similar attributes. These transaction categories are defined at the program level and apply globally.
Available transaction categories:
- ATM (All ATM transactions)
- ATM_DOMESTIC (Domestic ATM transactions)
- ECOM (All E-commerce transactions)
- ECOM_DOMESTIC (Domestic E-commerce transactions)
- POS_CONTACTLESS (Point of sale contactless transactions)
- POS (Point of sale transactions)
Card transactional limits
Card transactional limits are more restrictive limits that can be applied to each transaction category. These card transactional limits apply only to individual cards where it is defined. Limits set in these card transactions must be lower than the defined program limits.
Partners may want to control spending depending on the transaction category. Below are some use cases where the card transactional category will be useful:
- Limit ATM withdrawals - the card transactional limit can be set for ATM or ATM_DOMESTIC transaction category, setting the limit to 1000 (or any amount lower than the program limits) at every interval. Intervals can be unit, daily, weekly, monthly, annually, etc.
- Limit per transaction spending on online purchases - the card transactional limit can be set for ECOM or ECOM_DOMESTIC transaction category, setting the limits to 1000 (or any amount lower than the program limits) at the unit interval.
- Disable ATM withdrawals for specific card types - some partners employ card tiers where they control the features and benefits being applied to different customer categories, e.g., {bronze, gold, diamond users}. In this example, bronze users can be limited to 0 on ATM withdrawals. While diamond users are allowed to withdraw up to 100,000 monthly.
Summary:
- Program limits are limits set up at the program level and apply globally.
- Transaction categories are transaction groupings for transactions with similar attributes.
- Card transactional limits are a more restrictive limit that is defined for each transaction category. These limits will only affect the card where it is defined.
